Friday, February 26, 2010 - Shortly after 11am, in the middle of what was one of the largest snow storms for years, the Bergen Regional Special Operations Team (BRSO) was requested into Tenafly. Tenafly Fire units were on scene at a grocery store on Piermont Road that had suffered a partial roof collapse due to the weight of the wet snow. It was believed that all employees and patrons self extricated themselves from the collapse but the Special Ops Team was requested to assist in searching. Squad 1 responded to the scene along with Chief Byrd and Chief Molinaro. Squad 1 stood by and was released shortly after 12pm. Tenafly FD had also requested the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Teams as well as special search dogs to respond due to the instability of the building and possibility of unknown patrons being trapped. After an extensive and thorough search of the building it was concluded that all had thankfully made it out safely. Tenafly Chief Philpott (510) was command.
