Members of Squad 1 Graduate from NSC 1st Responder Course
 
On 6/1/2008, eight members of Squad 1 successfully completed the National Safety Council's
First Responder Course. The rigorous course consisted of sixty hours of lecture and practical sessions in areas including; Medical & Traumatic Emergencies, Bandaging & Splinting, Emergency Childbirth, Healthcare Provider CPR, use of the Automated External Defibrillator, Lifting & Moving Patients & Oxygen Therapy. On evaluation day, students had to pass both written and practical testing administered by NSC Instructors.

COMPANY THREE HAS TAKEN DELIVERY OF THE NEW RESCUE TRUCK ON FRIDAY

ON SATURDAY, MAY 10 TH, MEMBERS OF SQUAD / ENGINE COMPANY 1 PARTICIPATED IN A BENEFIT CALLED

On Saturday, May 10 TH, members of Squad / Engine Company 1 participated in a benefit called "Operation Touch a Truck" to support the Special Olympics. Squad 1 was on display for kids from all around Bergen County. Squad 1 members provided tours of the truck. Fire Patrol members also assisted the Special Olympics Event Staff. Emergency service vehicles including police, fire, EMS, Rescue, DPW as well as monster trucks, construction vehicles, tow trucks, antique sports cars, utility vehicles from PSE

SQUAD 1 / FAIR LAWN QUINT 2 DRILL AT BERGENFIELD TRAINING CENTER

SQUAD 1 / FAIR LAWN QUINT 2 DRILL AT BERGENFIELD TRAINING CENTER On 3/27/08, Squad and Engine 1 Firefighters trained with members of Fair Lawn Fire Co 2 at the Bergenfield Training Center. Fire attack, accountability and search drills were conducted under simulated fire conditions. Deputy Chief Byrd participated and supervised crews as members practiced a new accountability procedure implemented in January of 2008. A special thanks to Fair Lawn Fire Chief Pete Yuskaitis, Fair Lawn Fire Co 2 and Bergenfield Fire Training Center Instructors Lodato and Kirsch for their contribution. The members had a great experience and look forward to training together again in the near future!

On Saturday, March 8th members of the Rescue 3 truck committee took a trip down to Rescue 1 to check on the progress of the company's newest piece. As you can see from the pictures the truck is coming along quickly. An April delivery date is expected.

MVC WITH ENTRAPMENT AT PROSPECT AND MADISON AVES

On Thursday, February 14, 2008, the DFD was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision with entrapment at the intersection of Prospect and Madison Avenues. All companies responded to the incident which also presented a fluid spill in the roadway. Rescue 3 extricated the victim while Engine 5 stretched a line for precautionary measures. Squad 1 and Squad 2 mitigated the fluid spill. One patient was transported to the hospital by Dumont Ambulance 28. All units cleared the scene at 13:15 PM.
